Road to Rwanda----Back to School
School
starts Wednesday, August 20. I will
teach 6th grade language, 9th grade World History, 10th
and 11th grades AP Comparative Government and Politics, and a
Digital Media Course in Christian Storytelling.
The last course, specifically, is a bit laughable. At 72, digital media is not exactly where I
can shine. But I want to share our
school, Virunga Valley Academy. I want
to showcase our students in hopes that we can facilitate their attendance in a
foreign university. I also want to use
it to recruit teachers to our school.
(All overseas schools struggle with filling their roster. Praise the Lord that we have 6 new teachers
this year, and they are not just bodies filling spots, but rather are excellent
educators which will be a blessing to our community: 4 from Kenya, 1 from
Uganda and 1 from Ghana). Students also need exposure to subjects involving
technology like this and listed on their transcripts to make them appealing to
universities. I used AI to outline the
course and we will just learn together.
The AP course is also always demanding, but having taught my first AP
course last year and having the students pass, is a great encouragement to all
of us.
Our summer
was fine. We enjoy time with our kids and grandkids, which is the reason we
even go through the exhaustion of making the trip. However, our old old beater of a car quit and
we replaced with a van RV to retire into (not necessarily anytime soon, but
sometime). That meant money….and more
money. We also continue to need prayers
for the working out of the house in FL from our parents that we are in a rent
to own situation. I am so so glad that
God is in control and our money belongs to Him.
In a few
weeks we will have finalized our marketing package for our book: BLESSED:
The Healing Power of the Beatitudes: Eight Cross-Cultural Steps to Emotional,
Relational, Spiritual Wholeness. I will put out a bigger announcement at
that time. But it took up part of our
summer, as well.
Pray for the new school year, the new teachers, the old teachers, and all the students. Pray for the publishing of our book.
