Road to Rwanda----The Journey of Some Bibles

We arrived back in Rwanda last night at 10 p.m. after being gone to the US on Christmas break for 3 weeks.  It was a good and fulfilling and restful vacation, but that is often almost erased by the long, long, long trip back to Africa.  There are also all the complications that accompany such a trip. Does Satan work overtime to just pester us while we are packing etc.?  Especially when that packing involves bringing Bibles to gift to friends and acquaintances in Rwanda?

Rick has begged Bibles off many people during this 3 weeks at home.  Reid Lehman, the former CEO of Miracle Hill Ministries, and friend of over 50 years, visited with us as we were preparing to share at Kathy St. Peters Jenkins church, Shady Grove Baptist, on Sunday night.  He immediately ordered 10 Bibles on Amazon to be delivered to Peter’s house before our leaving at 4 a.m. on Thursday. We waited on Tuesday when the books were to arrive. It had been a frustrating day.  We had lost a $100 check from Kathy somewhere between the house and the bank.  Rick realized that he had lost a credit card. We were wondering about whether and how we were filling up our suitcases, etc.  Things were looking up when we found an Amazon package delivered to our door addressed to Rick.  The Bibles were here….only they were not!  Instead it was two flats of a Chocolate Protein drink….sent to Rick…..by some still undisclosed source?  We kind of assumed that there had been a mix up with the order from Reid, and he started to request a refund for the Bibles, while we shared the chocolate milk with the grandkids.  Except that the Bibles arrived at the last minute about 8 p.m. on Wednesday night?  We were able to stuff them into our duffle bag/suitcase and were very grateful….Only the journey of the Bibles does not end there.

Last night when I opened the duffle bag in the middle of the night as we were up wandering around suffering from jetlag, I discovered that a container of dry baking cocoa had burst and spread throughout the entire duffle bag.  A terrible mess, with cocoa powder all over and inside the Bibles, as well as clothes, shoes, packages of food, etc. etc. This was bad enough, and very difficult to wipe off, but as I delved into the duffle bag, I started to feel something wet and sticky also adhering to the cocoa.  A spray bottle of cooking oil had emptied itself all over the already messy cocoa residue.  It was now wet, oily, and chocolated.  (Does Satan regularly use chocolate to try to defeat us? Just asking.)  I finally have most things cleaned….but only to find that the washing machine is not working as I try to clean the chocolate smeared clothes.  Also Rick lost his glasses  on the way home.  However, perseverance pays off. Most things are now cleaned and put away, men are here now working on the washing machine, and Rick’s glasses have been found in the car. Pray for jet lag recovery and no more chocolate incidents…also the blessing these Bibles will be as Rick distributes them. P.S. We still have no idea where the chocolate protein drink came from?
