Road to Indonesia--Life Insurance/Visa

Written on Mar 25, 2021

The things one does for a visa!!  I have been told that a few years ago an expat died in Indonesia somewhere and the relatives sued the government for expensses. Now, before we can progress further with our visa application we have to have proof of life insurance. I don't know that we have ever carried life insurance.  We have searched the sites, which is not always easy online .....from Indonesia. I cannot make a quick call to an agent for help. Nothing makes a great deal of sense. We are only doing this to fulfill requirements. We do not want/can't pay much money for a policy and the policy can be as low as like $1000 or something. Can anyone help us? Advice? Contact with an agent who will email? Knowledge of low insurance premiums? Anything?

The visa specialist here at school says we have everything but the life insurance policies and Rick's birth certificate.  (Hallelujah, You have no idea how much of a miracle it is that all of these various and sundry documents were in our important papers from Chian.) Sister-in-law and son (thank you) were able to work together to get an application filed for the birth certificate and we anticipate that it can be scanned to us soon. Of course the Indonesia government also has to start accepting new visa applications, which has not been opened for quite a while, but they seem hopeful.

Monday we are to go visit a notary public/lawyer here in our little town to get documents notarized for our request to replace our ATM cards for the bank in China. The hope is that she has some contacts who could walk our documents through the two Indonesian ministries and the Chinese embassy which need to authorize the documents before they can be sent to China. We vaguely are wondering if we should fly to Jakarta, an overnight plane trip, during Easter break to see if we can facilitate this, but I am pretty sure we will talk ourselves out of this useless and expensive trip.

We continue to love, love, love our time here. We are now also doing our online teaching for Peking University after Semester break, which means we are busy.  We also have been asked by PKU if we are interested in continuing teaching next fall. We said, absolutely....if we can figure out the bank issues.

We have rarely asked for help, but we sincerely need some solid support for the life insurance difficulties. Thank you.
