Road to Peace's placement.....real success this time.

Written on Jul 13, 2022

From January on, in Indonesia, I thought and prayed about what needed to be done this summer.  It just seemed insurmountable, particularly within my time frame. But every step that I had envisioned has just fallen into place.  We arrived to SC on June 7. On July 7 (one month) we completed the paper work for Peace's placement in a nursing home, where she has to be for 90 days for her to access her funding stream in her rmove from FL to MA.  Today, 3 weeks to the day after arriving in MA, Peace was placed in Fitchburg Rehab and Nursing Home.  As we waited the weekend between the finishing of the paperwork and her placement we were confident of the availablity of a room that had been promised from her arrival in MA....the only nursing home to respond at all to our repeated inquiry. Even though the responding admissions officer was fired 2 days after we met her, we were still assured that the room would be available. Confidently we called on Monday morning to confirm the room to find that on Friday cases of covid had started in the nursing home and now they did not have a bed.  We worked all Monday morning with conflicting stories between the corporate headquarters in NJ and the nursing home here in MA.  Finally we got in the car and started down the list of homes that had been sent to FL and Indonesia in December and who had not answered our calls.  We knew we had all the paperwork in place, but what good is that if no bed were available? When we were at the fourth nursing home, we finally got a positive response.  It is a small non-corporate-mom-and-pop shop, but good for us and Peace.  As we were with her today in the home, we found staff from Senegal and Tanzania, and Latinos, etc.  Our kind of place. It is an old building, with friendly friendly people.  Tonight Peace is having her first night there.  She is Ok, although it is a little lonely and scary.  We will visit with her tomorrow morning and then head down to PA to start our week of 50th anniversary celebrations with the rest of the kids.  Sad not to have Peace with us, but her placement needs are far more important than a celebration.  Please pray for peace of mind for all of us.  Obviously, we are confident this is where God wants her.  I had the map for the summer built piece by piece in Indonesia, but not the time frame. Now I see the fruition of the first (and more important part) of our plans.
