Road to Rwanda---Tying up Threads

Written on Oct 1, 2024

So many threads to try to give updates on:

The Rwanda church continues to deal with extensive closings.  Although there are some buildings still available for worship, there is a significant number which are not opened, and very little projection that they will open again soon.  The Church, as a body of believers, continues to follow Jesus.

Paul's mother-in-law continues in the rehabilitation facility, dealing with the aftermath of her Father's Day accident.  She asks for prayer as the pain meds are less effective. It is still unclear as to what future interventions will be needed.  She perseveres in Jesus. Paul's father-in-law's appentectomy is postponed to an indefinite date.

The trees cut down in the forest beside our school is complete, but there has been no movement to implement the planned big vehicle parking area.  The State Department is evidently investigating and that is good.

Mpox (monkeypox) does not necessarily seem to be spreading, but we contineu with careful handwashing as we enter school, etc.

Which bring us to the next prayer request.  There are about 20+ cases of Marburg virus reported in Kigali, the capital 2 1/2 hours away.  The Kigali state department has issued warnings. This is a hemorrhagic fever similar to Ebola.  Our business manager  is a dear friend and I have mentioned at times as being one of the supports that makes our stay here comfortable.  His family has suffered 2 of the 6 deaths recorded from this virus.  The other 4 deaths seem to be medical personnel.  We are entirely safe.  One needs direct contact with bodily fluids, etc., but out of an abundance of caution, besides handwashing the students' temperature is also being taken as they enter school.  We are just sad with our friend, and do need for no further spread of this dread sickness.

Then today at school the internet was cut.  This may not sound like a catastrophe, but any of you invovled in education today knows that teaching any high school subjects involve so much interaction with the internet.  We seem to still have internet at home for which I am thankful, but it was a LONG, tiring day.

Peter, our second son, and family are safe in South Carolina after Hurrican Helene, but it has been a mess.  Long, long lines to get gas, which ends up running out right before they get to the head of the line.  Driving an hour or more to get any food, after the electricy outage has cleared out Walmart, etc.  His electricity is restored, but still trouble with cooking, etc.  His wife, who is facing a heart ablation on Oct.21, for a serious condiiton, has put in double and triple time as an admiinistrator in a nursing home.

Much to pray about. Thank you.
