Road to Rwanda----International Staff
This is truly an international staff. I have had so so much fun with the neighbor
lady here in our apartment complex who arrived at the same time we did. She is
from Zimbabwe, which we have visited many years ago when we lived in Zambia,
and has many similarities with Zambia ( like calling the hot water heater a
“geyser”, which the Rwandan staff found confusing, but I knew what she
meant). The other night as we were
walking home from eating supper at the principal’s house, we got to laughing so
hard I thought people might come out of the houses and tell us to be
quiet. We were particularly tickled when
we figured out that we really did not know which road to turn on to get
home. We figured it out but were afraid
maybe we would be hours wandering. She
most recently came from a school in Afghanistan where she was teaching. She was not able to return to Zimbabwe until
after the Taliban had taken over, but then made it out. She has a beautiful 6 year old daughter with
her. The daughter asked her mom if she
could call me “Granny” and in Sunday School, she drew me a picture which is now
on my refrigerator. What a privilege it
is to be with these people.
Sunday I went to church.
(Rick had to stay home because the tech was coming to attach our
internet service. We were told it would be about $250 a month…which is more
than our rent…but from a different new provider, we are getting it for $20 per
month! But the man came at 10 o’clock on a Sunday morning to make it
work!) I walked the kilometer to the school
where the church meets. I enjoyed it so
very much. It is called “Freedom Church”.
There are 39 congregations all over the world. It is based out of England. They record the worship time and sermon and
then they are streamed to wherever/whenever the church service is. A good worship time, and an excellent,
challenging sermon. There were about 70
people there. Only a few school staff and
a handful of whites. We will enjoy this
church. There are other options of house
churches in English as well.
