Road to Indonesia---Water and Wind

Written on Jan 29, 2021

Well they delayed cleaning our water pipes from last weekend to this weekend. They tested the actual well and that water is not contaminated, so it is in the pipes. This week we were told to boil our drinking water while we wait....unless we had not been sick from drinking the contaminated water, then it was our choice as to whether we continued drinking it.  We boiled plenty of water this week (we are used to doing that), and used some of it, but mainly just went on drinking it. After all these years and the many places we have been and the variety of water we have drunk and food we have eaten, it is very rare for us to get sick.  But now this weekend they want to clean the pipes. So last night we hurried around and made the desert and biscuits for the company coming for Saturday night supper and took our much needed showers, and then  stopped using any water from the tap, waited an hour and then bled the pipes for a few minutes until we could smell the chlorine.  (Only we couldn't smell the chlorine. Our smellers died many decades ago, somewhere, somehow. We got the neighbor to come and smell our water. haha)  Now we are not to turn on any of the taps until we are told we can, probably Sunday morning. We have buckets of water all over, to wash up, do dishes, flush the toilet, etc. It is a bother, but not any different than we have had to do in many places. (I remember days and days of having our bathtub full of water in Senegal because of water shortages.) Our feeling still is, you can have my electricity just about any time, but please do not take our water.

A really quite big wind most of yesterday. I mean a wind strong enough to blow in through the open windows and knock lamps off the living room and bed side tables!!  So lying in bed last night you can hear things in the house hitting the floor. Rather a minimalist living style so not much that can blow around. It is not like tornado winds, but strong. We can just close the multiple windows, but then it is too hot. Seems to have quieted during the night. A little strange.
